  • Can the Yale Smart Video Doorbell run of a battery or mains?

The Yale Smart Video Doorbell can run of the internal battery or from a mains power supply.

In camera hardware, the two power input options are designed for different use cases, depending on the available home installation options:

USB-C input: this is used when you are running the internal battery, the battery will need to be charged. For optimal/shortest charging time we recommend a 5V, 2 A.mp Using a 1 Amp charger will extend the charging time. Note: the Yale Smart Video Doorbell does not support any fast charging standards. A fast charger can be connected, but there will be no fast charging benefit as charging will be standard 5V 2 Amp charging.

24VDC, 0.5A: This is what the Yale AC adapter provides, and the Doorbell is designed to handle this. The Yale AC adapter could also have been named AC/DC adapter, it converts input AC voltage (mains 110/240 VAC) to output DC voltage (24VDC). (AC Adapter sold separately)

8-24VAC: this is the voltage range mostly used by traditional mechanical chimes that are set up with a bell transformer which in most countries (except UK) is located in a fuse box central in the house. The Doorbell screw terminals can be connected to the wires that is used by the mechanical bell button, the old mechanical chime must be disconnected, that is the wires powering it must be disconnected and in between these to wires it's suitable to place the inline fuse that the Doorbell is delivered with. It's very important that the inline fuse is installed.

For guidence, in the Yale Home app, go to the settings menu (accessed by pressing the small gear icon) for each Yale Smart camera, scroll down to installation guides to view the in-app videos and images that show you to mount your cameras.

Alternativy, Click here to view the video on how to setup your Yale Smart Video Doorbell.

  • Which way around do I connect power to rear terminals on Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

The terminals on the rear of the Yale Smart Video Doorbell are not marked positive or negative, you can connect the power supply either way around.

  • If connected to mains power supply does this bypass internal battery?

Yes, however the battery remains charged as a backup in the event of power cut.

Note: 110/240V mains can't be connected directly to the doorbell camera terminals, this will damage the camera. You will need a 8-24 V DC supply as found with our Yale AC Power Adaptor.

For further guidence on connecting to a mains power supply, in the Yale Home app, go to the settings menu (accessed by pressing the small gear icon) for each Yale Smart camera, scroll down to installation guides to view the in-app videos and images that show you to mount your cameras.

  • If connected to a mains power supply and there is a power cut, does the Yale Smart Video Doorbell revert to battery power?

Yes, the battery remains charged and is used as a backup in the event of power cut.

  • When I first setup the Yale Smart Video Doorbell do I need to charge battery?

If the battery level is too low (<20%) and no power is connected, the onboarding can't be started. We recommend that power is always connected to the camera before starting the onboarding and setup.

  • What is the battery charge time?

It will take approximately 5-6 hours to fully charge the Yale Smart Video Doorbell from a flat battery (using a 2A charger, with 1A charger it can take about 1 hour longer).

  • What is the expected battery life of the Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

This depends on usage and activated features such as motion detect, spot light. A fully charged battery will provide approximatly 4-6 months use.

The battery level is displayed in the Settings section of the Yale Home app under Device Information, this is displayed as a percentage.

If connected to the mains supply, a lightetning bolt symbol will be displayed.

  • What additional accessories are available for the Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

Yale AC Power adapter - Click Here for more information on accessories.

  • When installing with the Yale AC Power Adaptor do I still need to user the inline fuse provided in the box?

  • Can the button on my Yale Smart Video Doorbell control my existing mechanical chime?

No, it is not designed to do this. The Yale Smart Video Doorbell is only compatible with the Yale Doorbell Chime.

  • Can I use my existing doorbell chime with the Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

If you have a mechanical doorbell chime currently installed, it will need to be disconnected from the power supply, as it cannot be integrated with the Yale Smart Video Doorbell.
