    Apple Watch and Yale Home

    If you have an Apple Watch and a Yale Smart Home product used with Wi-Fi and the Yale Home app, you can use your Apple Watch to lock and unlock. Open the Yale Home app on the device.

    Tap the green lock circle to unlock. Conversely, tap the red circle to lock it again. You must be the Owner to operate the Yale Home app with an Apple Watch.

  • How to Delete a Yale Smart Opener from Your Account

    This article provides steps to remove a Yale Smart Opener from your account. PLEASE NOTE: Your status as either an Owner or a Guest, as well as your reason for removing the Yale Smart Opener, determines the best method for removing the device from your account. Select either Owner or Guest (depending on your access level) for instructions.

    Owners

    If you are the only Owner of a Yale Smart Opener and you need to delete because you no longer wish to have access to it, you need to factory reset the Yale Smart Opener in order to remove it from your account. Follow the factory reset instructions to remove the Yale Smart Opener from your account. Factory resetting the Yale Smart Opener will also remove all other associated accounts.

    If you are an Owner and you need to remove the Yale Smart Opener to install it on another garage/gate, you will need to factory reset it, unless the garage/gate is in the same house as it is currently and is being installed on the same brand/model motor. If you are installing the Yale Smart Opener on the same house, you can remove and reinstall it on the new gate/garage without factory resetting. Once you relocate your existing Yale Smart Opener to another garage/gate, you can rename accordingly. In this case, you can rename the Yale Smart Opener in your account as follows:

    1. Open the Yale Home App
    2. Select the house the Yale Smart Opener is associated with from your Keychain
    3. Go to House Settings
    4. Select the device
    5. Select Yale Smart Opener Name
    6. Rename the Yale Smart Opener in the field provided

    If you are an Owner and you have moved and you left the Yale Smart Opener at your former residence, you will need to factory reset the Yale Smart Opener in order to remove it from your account. If you experience issues removing yourself from the Yale Smart Opener, contact Customer Support.

    Guests

    If you are a Guest on a Yale Smart Opener and you want to remove the device from your account:

    1. Open the Yale Home App
    2. Select the Yale Smart Opener from your Keychain
    3. Go to the Guest List
    4. Select REMOVE SELF

    You will be prompted to verify that you would like to remove the user, in this case yourself, from the device.

  • How to Add / Remove a House to / from Your Keychain

    The Keychain allows you to manage all of your properties or homes in the Yale Home App. If you have multiple properties, you can create keys for all of them in your keychain. Each property added to your keychain will extend the list of keys and you will need to scroll to access them.

    Adding a House

    You can add a new House to your Keychain when you set up a new smart lock at that house. Follow steps below:

    1. Open the Yale Home App
    2. Navigate to the Main Menu in the top left corner
    3. Select Set up a Device
    4. Scan the QR code (this is normally found under the battery cover on the lock). If that is not possible, select Can’t Scan the data the type of device you want to set up
    5. Select START
    6. Select Continue and then Begin Setup by allowing the Yale Home App to scan for the new device
    7. Once the App finds the Lock, you will be given a list of all properties already listed in your Yale Home App as well as an option to Create a New House. Select this option to create a new key in your Keychain.
    8. When prompted, give your house a name and photo and then Continue

    Continue setting up the device by following the in-App instructions. The next time you open your Yale Home App, you should see the new house in the Keychain. You will also be able to add new devices to this House at set up for new devices going forward.

    Removing a House

    If you wish to remove a House from the Keychain in the Yale Home App, you can do so by factory resetting any locks associated with the house. A house disappears when an Owner factory resets all locks associated with the house. Follow instructions for factory reset available at our page for General Info and FAQ.

    If you are a guest, the house is removed from your Keychain when you are no longer a Guest of any of the locks associated with the house. Guests may remove themselves from the house via the App as well.

  • How to Reset a Forgotten Password

    If you're having trouble signing into your Yale Home Account because you can't remember your password, you can use the "forgot password" feature to create a new password.

    PLEASE NOTE: Instructions for resetting the security PIN for your Google Home or the Google Assistant integration are available in the following article:

    Select Sign In and follow in-app setup screens:

    1. Next, select Forgot Password
    2. Select the country from the drop down list and enter your mobile phone number in the international format (including country code).
    3. A few seconds after submitting your mobile number, you should receive a text message from us. This text will contain a 6-digit code. Enter the code into the text field to continue.
    4. Enter the email address that you used to set up your Yale Home Account. We will send a security code to this email address.
    5. Check your email inbox after submitting your email address. You should have received an email from us with a security code. Check your spam folder if the email is not in your inbox.

    Once you retrieve the email with the security code, enter this code in the text field:

    Follow the in-App instructions and create a new password.

    This should successfully update your password in your Yale Home Account.

    If you are unable to successfully reset your password with the steps above, try signing in using your email address (instead of your phone number) at the sign in screen. 

    Password Requirements

    It is necessary that the new password satisfies our password complexity requirements:

    • At least one uppercase letter
    • At least one lowercase letter
    • At least one number
    • At least one non-alphanumeric character

    The credentials associated with the Yale Home Account are necessary to complete the password reset steps. If you receive the api_authentication_error while resetting your password it is an indication that the email and/or phone number used to authenticate the account do not match the credentials on the account.

    If password reset continues to fail, do not attempt to recreate a new account using your existing account info. Contact our Support Team.

  • Can I use an Apple Watch with the Yale Smart Opener?

    If you have an Apple Watch and a Yale Smart Opener with the Yale Home app, you can use your Apple Watch to Open and Close. Open the Yale Home App on the device. Tap the green circle to open Conversely, tap the red circle to close again.

    You must be the Owner to operate the Yale Home app with an Apple Watch. 

    Auto-Open does not work with Apple Watch. Remote operations are not possible.

  • How Do I Find My Yale Smart Opener Serial Number

    You can find your serial number using the Yale Home App. Select the Gear Icon ⚙ located on the lower right-hand corner of the status circle screen.

    Select Yale Smart Opener Settings, then Device Information to view the serial number for your Yale Smart Opener.

  • How Do I Enter My Home and/or Disable Access if My Phone is Lost or Stolen?

    If your phone is lost or stolen, follow these steps to regain access to your home:

    To log out of all devices and disable your phone’s access to your Yale Smart Opener , you will need access to the Internet and the email account you use with Yale Home. You can access the Internet via a desktop computer or an alternative mobile device such as another phone or a tablet.

    1. Go to this website
    2. Select the link Login with email from the bottom of the screen
    3. Enter your email and password to login
    4. Login to your email account and retrieve the verification code
    5. Go back to the account website, enter the code, and select verify
    6. Select Lost Phone to log out of the Yale Home App on all devices
    7. Select Logout of Yale Home App to complete steps

    You are now logged out of your Yale account. PLEASE NOTE: Any third party apps such as Amazon, Google Assistant, etc. will continue working as expected.

    To regain access to your home:

    If you have a physical key, you can use that to get into your home.

    If you have a Yale Smart Keypad you can use the keypad instead of the Yale Home App.

    Another Owner of the Yale Smart Opener can open your Garage/Gate remotely.

    If none of the options mentioned above works you will need to gain access to your Yale Smart Opener using another smartphone.

    • Step 1: Download the Yale Home App to a substitute smartphone.
    • Step 2: Log into your Yale Home account

    You can now operate your Yale Smart Opener using this phone. Once you have a permanent replacement phone, there is no need to set up your Yale devices again. All that is required is to download the Yale Home App on the replacement phone and sign in / validate your phone number or email address. All of your Yale Home devices will remain set up in your account.

    Additional Suggestions

    Both iOS and Android provide tools to help locate your phone and in some cases disable it (depending on the security features you’ve enabled.)

    iPhone users:

    Visit www.icloud.com, log in to your iCloud account, and select the “Find my iPhone” feature.

    Android users:

    Visit www.google.com/android/devicemanager and log into your Google Account.

    If your phone cannot be located, you need to contact your cellular service carrier. If your phone cannot be retrieved your carrier can help you get a replacement phone and regain access to your phone number.
