How do I configure my Google Assistant to Yale?
- Open the Google Assistant app and log in to your Google Account
- Select the Actions icon in the lower left corner (Android) / lower right corner (iOS)
- Tap on your profile in the top right
- Under Assistant, go to Home Control
- Add your Smart Lock(s) by selecting the '+' icon in the bottom right, then scroll to or search for Yale in the Add devices menu
- Follow the steps to sign in to and verify your Yale Home Account
- You need to agree to allow Google to Operate your Smart Locks / View the Status of your Smart Locks
- Next, set your security code/PIN. Be sure to set your security code to a PIN you are likely to remember as this is needed to operate your lock using Google Assistant
Your accounts should now be configured. If you need additional help setting up smart home devices to use with Google Assistant, this article has more information. Feel free to assign rooms to your Smart Lock(s) as needed. Once your Account is connected to Google through the Google Assistant, you can make the following lock request or check the lock’s status:
- “OK Google, lock my front door” (use the name assigned to your door in the Yale Home App)
- “OK Google, is my front door locked?”
- "OK Google, unlock my front door." Google Assistant will prompt you for your security PIN code. Reply with your PIN to unlock the door.
If you have DoorSense installed on your door to indicate whether your door is open or closed, you can also check that status by saying:
- “OK Google, is my front door closed?”
How do I set up the Google Direct Action?
The following steps will help you set up the Google Direct Action:
- Launch and log into the Google Assistant app
- Select the Actions icon in the lower left corner (Android) / lower right corner (iOS)
- Tap on your profile in the top right
- Under Assistant, go to Home Control
- Tap the plus sign icon in the bottom right corner to Add devices
- Select Yale
- Sign in with your Yale Home account information to see your lock(s) listed in Google Assistant’s Devices section
You should now be able to view and manage your available Yale Locks in Google Assistant app (Profile>Assistant > Home Control) or Google Home app (Profile>Assistant > Home Control).
PLEASE NOTE: If you change the name of your lock in the Yale Home App, it is best to unlink and relink your accounts so the new name is recognized by Google Assistant.
How do I update my security code/PIN for unlocking my door using Google Assistant?
In order to update your security code/PIN you will need to unlink and relink your Yale Home Account with your Google account.
To do this, unlink your Yale Home Account from Google Assistant in the Google Assistant app. Follow the steps below to reset your PIN:
- Open the Assistant App and tap on the Actions button in the bottom left (Android) / bottom right (iOS)
- Tap on your profile in the top right
- Select Assistant tab and then the Home Control option
- Tap the 3 dots in the top right corner
- Select Manage Accounts
- Tap the Yale option and select "Unlink"
- Confirm that you want to unlink
Once you have unlinked your accounts, go through the setup steps again. This is where you reset the PIN. Choose a memorable PIN.
How do I unlink my Google Assistant from my Yale Home Account?
If you wish to unlink your Google Assistant from your Yale Home Account, follow the steps below:
- Select the Actions icon in the lower left corner (Android) / lower right corner (iOS)
- Tap on your profile in the top right
- Select Settings
- Under Assistant, go to Home Control
- Select the 3 horizontal lines at the top right and choose Manage Accounts
- Select Yale at the top and choose "Unlink account"
- Select "Unlink" when prompted
