This article provides steps to remove a lock from your account. PLEASE NOTE: Your status as either a lock Owner or a Guest, as well as your reason for removing the lock, determines the best method for removing the device from your account. Select either Lock Owner or Guest (depending on your access level) for instructions.
Lock Owners
If you are the only lock Owner of a Yale Smart lock and you need to delete a lock because you no longer wish to have access to it, you need to factory reset the lock in order to remove it from your account. Follow the factory reset instructions to remove the lock from your account. Factory resetting the lock will also remove all other associated accounts from the lock.If you are a lock Owner and you need to remove the lock to install it on another door, you will need to factory reset the lock unless the door is on the same house as it is currently. If you are installing the lock on the same house, you can remove the lock from its current door and reinstall it on the new door without factory resetting. For example, if you are installing a new Yale smart lock on your front door and you wish to relocate your existing Yale smart lock to your back door, you can rename it accordingly. In this case, you can rename the lock in your account as follows:
- Open the Yale Access App
- Select the house the lock is associated with from your Keychain
- Go to House Settings
- Select the device
- Select Lock Name
- Rename the lock in the field provided
If you are a lock Owner and you have moved and you left the lock at your former residence, you will need to factory reset the lock in order to remove it from your account. If you experience issues removing yourself from the lock, contact Customer Support.
Guests
If you are a Guest on a lock and you want to remove the device from your account:
- Open the Yale Access App
- Select the lock from your Keychain
- Go to the Guest List
- Select REMOVE SELF
You will be prompted to verify that you would like to remove the user, in this case yourself, from the device.
If you experience issues removing yourself from the lock, contact Customer Support.

Adding a house
You can add a new House to your Keychain when you set up a new smart lock at that house. Follow steps below:
- Open the Yale Access App
- Navigate to the Main Menu in the top left corner
- Select Set up a Device
- Scan the QR code (this is normally found under the battery cover on the lock). If that is not possible, select Can’t Scan the data the type of device you want to set up
- Select START
- Select Continue and then Begin Setup by allowing the Yale Access App to scan for the new device
- Once the App finds the Lock, you will be given a list of all properties already listed in your Yale Access App as well as an option to Create a New House. Select this option to create a new key in your Keychain.
- When prompted, give your house a name and photo and then Continue
Continue setting up the device by following the in-App instructions. The next time you open your Yale Access App, you should see the new house in the Keychain. You will also be able to add new devices to this House at set up for new devices going forward.
Removing a house
If you wish to remove a House from the Keychain in the Yale Access App, you can do so by factory resetting any locks associated with the house. A house disappears when an Owner factory resets all locks associated with the house. Follow instructions for factory reset available at our page for General Info and FAQ.
If you are a guest, the house is removed from your Keychain when you are no longer a Guest of any of the locks associated with the house. Guests may remove themselves from the house via the App as well.
How to Reset a Forgotten Password
If you're having trouble signing into your Yale Access Account because you can't remember your password, you can use the "forgot password" feature to create a new password.
PLEASE NOTE: Instructions for resetting the security PIN for your Google Home or the Google Assistant integration are available in the following article:
Select Sign In and follow in-app setup screens:
- Next, select Forgot Password
- Select the country from the drop down list and enter your mobile phone number in the international format (including country code).
- A few seconds after submitting your mobile number, you should receive a text message from us. This text will contain a 6-digit code. Enter the code into the text field to continue.
- Enter the email address that you used to set up your Yale Access Account. We will send a security code to this email address.
- Check your email inbox after submitting your email address. You should have received an email from us with a security code. Check your spam folder if the email is not in your inbox.
Once you retrieve the email with the security code, enter this code in the text field:
Follow the in-App instructions and create a new password.
This should successfully update your password in your Yale Access Account.
If you are unable to successfully reset your password with the steps above, try signing in using your email address (instead of your phone number) at the sign in screen.
Password Requirements
It is necessary that the new password satisfies our password complexity requirements:
- At least one uppercase letter
- At least one lowercase letter
- At least one number
- At least one non-alphanumeric character
The credentials associated with the Yale Access Account are necessary to complete the password reset steps. If you receive the api_authentication_error while resetting your password it is an indication that the email and/or phone number used to authenticate the account do not match the credentials on the account.
If password reset continues to fail, do not attempt to recreate a new account using your existing account info. Contact our Support Team.
