Yes. A visible, trusted alarm system acts as a strong deterrent. Most intruders look for easy targets, so a home with a visible alarm with a siren on the front of the house is far less likely to be chosen. Yale's perimeter protection accessories will help stop unwanted visitors befor they get to your home: with our Pre-Break In sensors, the alarm will trigger at any vibration on the door or window. Our Outdoor Motion Detector will trigger at movement outside your home and the Outdoor Contact will trigger the alarm if a gate or external door is opened. It’s not just about responding to incidents - it’s about helping stop them from happening.
I have a Camera and/or Video Doorbell. Do I still need an alarm?
Cameras help you see what’s happening - but an alarm helps stop it. A visible alarm system is a proven deterrent, helping prevent intruders from targeting your home in the first place. If triggered, it creates an immediate, attention-grabbing response - unlike a camera, which records events as they happen. For the best protection, consider using both - with an alarm providing proactive security and cameras adding visibility.Â
Do I need to pay for the Yale Home app?
No, it's free to download and use, with no hidden fees.
Do I need a subscription?
No – a subscription is not needed to use your alarm. We do offer subscription packages, should you want to upgrade to cellular back-up (if your Wi-Fi goes down), Automated Call Alerts (we’ll phone 3 designated people if your alarm is triggered) or 24/7 Securitas Monitoring.
Can I rely on it when it matters most?Â
Yes, that’s exactly what it’s designed for. Whether you’re at work, out for the day, or on holiday, you can stay connected and reassured via the Yale Home app. It gives you the confidence to switch off and enjoy your time away, knowing your home is protected.
Is the alarm easy to use?
Yes - setting and managing your alarm is simple. You can arm, part-arm and disarm through the Yale Home app or using the included Keypad. No complexity, no hassle - just straightforward protection you can rely on. You can even set a schedule to automatically set you alarm daily for maximum ease.
What happens why my alarm is triggered?
You’ll be alerted straight away via the Yale Home app and your alarm will sound (via the internal Hub, the External Siren and the Internal Siren, if you have one). For added reassurance, you can add a Professional Monitoring subscription, where trained experts at Securitas respond to alerts for you - ensuring action is taken even if you’re unavailable.
What happens if I have a power cut? Or my Wi-Fi drops out?
If your home experiences a power cut, the backup battery keeps your system running for up to 12 hours when connected with an Ethernet cable. If your Wi-Fi drops out, we offer the ‘Alarm’ Subscription plan, which gives you cellular backup for just £5 per month; a 4G connection kicks in, so your home stays protected without interruption.
How many accessories can I add? How far from the Hub can they be?
You can expand your system with up to 100 accessories, so it can grow with your home and security needs. Each accessory (e.g. Door Contacts, Motion Detectors etc) can be positioned up to 1km from your alarm Hub - ideal for larger homes, gardens, or outbuildings - while staying reliably connected.  Your alarm accessories/ sensors work over radio frequency, so don't worry if your Wi-Fi network doesn’t need to stretch that far.
Does the Yale Alarm work with other Yale smart products, such as cameras and smart locks?
Yes. The Yale Home Burglar Alarm is designed to work seamlessly with other Yale devices, including cameras and smart locks. Together, they create a more complete home security system – disarm your alarm when your door unlocks, or turn your cameras on when you arm your alarm. Â
Does the Yale Alarm work with Google, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, or Philips Hue?
