Mortice deadlocks are commonly fitted to wooden doors and be locked from both the inside and outside with the right key. The lock itself is fitted within the door unlock other locks which sit on the surface. Mortice deadlocks are ideal for fitting to front or back doors, especially with the 5 level technology which requires the key to turn 5 levers (rather than 3) which gives the lock a High Security rating.
The mechanism for the lock is relatively large so the door in question will require enough thickness to accommodate the lock. When the correct key is inserted, the levers align and the mechanism will rotate which in turn extends the bolt. If an incorrect key is used, it might not even fit into the lock or it won’t trigger the levers correctly and not withdraw the bolt.
Being a mortice lock, it only has a keyhole and a bolt that goes back and forth, therefore you will always require a key to open the door. Mortice locks are commonly used in doors due to their security and reliability. Yale have been producing these locks for years and are a popular choice in the UK.
